How Many Samples Does a New Activewear Brand Really Need?
Learn which activewear sample stages a new brand may need, from prototype and fit sample to size set and pre-production sample-without unnecessary rounds.

There is no responsible universal answer such as "one sample" or "three samples." The number depends on design complexity, quality of the tech pack, fabric availability, fit requirements, size range and how clearly feedback is managed.
The objective is not to minimize sample count at any cost. It is to resolve meaningful risk without creating repetitive, unfocused rounds.
Common sample purposes
Development/prototype sample: tests the initial design and construction.

Size set: checks grading across selected sizes.

Photo/sales sample: supports marketing or wholesale presentation.

Pre-production sample: represents intended bulk materials and workmanship where required.
Pre-production sample:

One physical sample may serve more than one purpose only when that purpose is stated and the materials are suitable.
What increases sample rounds?
incomplete tech packs;
changing the design after every fitting;
unavailable fabric or trim;
