Yoga Leggings Measurements and Anatomy | Buyer Guide
Learn the main parts and measurements of yoga leggings, including waistband, rise, hip, crotch depth, gusset, thigh, inseam and leg opening.

The Anatomy of Yoga Leggings: Key Measurements Every Buyer Should Know
A reference photo can communicate style, but it cannot define fit. To develop repeatable private-label leggings, buyers and manufacturers need a shared language for garment parts, measurements and construction.
The exact point-of-measure method should be illustrated in the tech pack. The terms below provide a practical starting point.
The waistband is the upper section that supports the garment. Important variables include:
relaxed waist width;
waistband height;
top and bottom contour;
internal elastic, if used;
number of layers;
compression and recovery.
Waistband design affects rolling, gaping, pressure and stability.
Front and back panels
The front panel and back panel form the main body. Their shapes are not interchangeable. The back generally requires different contour and length to accommodate the body and movement.
Panel lines may also create pockets, shaping or color blocking. Every added seam affects stretch distribution, labor and potential bulk.
A back yoke is a separate upper-back panel used for shaping or visual design. Its curve and seam position influence the appearance of the seat and the way tension is distributed.
A flattering line in a flat sketch still needs to be checked on the body across sizes.
Front rise and back rise
Rise describes the vertical and curved relationship from the crotch area toward the waist. Front and back rise influence coverage, comfort and where the waistband sits.
Insufficient rise may create pulling or downward drag. Excess rise can produce extra fabric or instability. Measurement method must be consistent because some specifications use straight depth while others follow the seam curve.
Crotch depth helps describe the vertical space required through the body. It interacts with rise, hip fit and waistband position. A legging can match the waist and hip width yet still feel wrong if the crotch balance is incorrect.
A gusset is an inserted panel at the crotch. Common objectives include:
redistributing intersecting seams;
supporting range of motion;
reducing a bulky seam junction;
